New Year Swing & Blues Class Schedule

ALL OF THE INFO HERE IS FROM LAST YEAR'S FESTIVAL
IT GIVES AN APPROXIMATE IDEA OF WHAT TO EXPECT ONLY
TIME & VENUE DETAILS MAY BE DIFFERENT THIS YEAR

    Solo track classes
on Fri/Sat are 7 hrs for people on the solo track only, plus 1 hr on Thursday which is open to all. You are also welcome to any of the partner classes you can make on Fri/Sat.

Aerials track classes on Fri/Sat are 6 hrs for people on the aerials track only, no partner rotation. You are also welcome to any of the partner classes you can make on Fri/Sat.

Partner track classes are 8 hrs on Fri/Sat, choosing from 10 sessions with a choice of 3-4 classes in each session. Partner track venues are now much closer together than last year, with both in Southville.

Partner track class size generally works out well, although obviously we can't get everyone in the same class. Your pass entitles you to 4 hrs of partner classes per day on Friday & Saturday. We have 5 hours of classes running, so you pick one session per day as your break.

Taster class sizes also can't fit everyone in the same class. Your pass entitles you to 2.5 hrs of taster classes (for those on the solo track it's Ben's taster plus another 2.5 hrs), just turn up to whichever ones you want. We'll be running over 6 hrs of taster classes so there should be space for everyone to do taster classes. You are welcome to attend more than 2.5 hrs if there's space in a class.

There will be detailed descriptions of each class available beforehand to help you choose.

    More details on each track

AERIALS track at All Hallows Hall
    13 All Hallows Road, BS5 0HH
You sign up specifically for this class with a fixed partner, so no rotation in class. Andy & Lindsay will build up from simple to more challenging aerials. On the second day, they will build a performance piece with you using the aerials from the first day, plus concentrate on what makes the difference in making your aerials look great in a performance or jam circle, with lots of individual feedback.

There's a space for you to perform the piece on Saturday night. It's not compulsory, but we hope you will - we promise you a warm reception :-)

11am-3pm Each day will include 3 hours teaching and a lunch break, exact timings are up to the teachers and the group.

PARTNER track at Southbank & St Francis Centre
    Southbank, Dean Lane, BS3 1DB
St Francis, St Francis Road, BS3 2AN

All classes are drop-in so you just turn up to whichever ones you like the sound of. This creates a really special atmosphere where you get to be in classes with everyone at the camp, and people are often surprised by how much they learn in a mixed-level class, which are a much better reflection of dance floors. The teachers make sure the classes are inclusive, but also include tips or pointers aimed at higher level dancers.

Most classes are mixed level and suitable for all, but this year we will also have a few streamed classes aimed at specific levels. Please read the level descriptions for these and only attend if you are at the appropriate level.

    SOLO track at Hamilton House
    80 Stokes Croft, BS1 3QY
The first all-comers class on Thursday will be the Mama's Stew routine. After that there are 7 hours of classes for the solo jazz group only, concentrating on improving your solo jazz technique & repetoire, plus building a routine (this won't be the main focus of the track).

There's a space for you to perform the routine on Saturday night. It's not compulsory, but we hope you will - we promise you a warm reception :-)

The track will be aimed at people who have attended dedicated solo jazz tracks/workshops before and are confident in common solo jazz steps. We are expecting roughly an intermediate dance level, but Ben will also aim to give pointers about what to work on for higher level dancers.
